Sustainable hydropower presentations
Environmentally friendly hydropower was the topic at the international conference "Sustainability in Hydropower". The presentations are now available online.
How can we achieve both power production and a healthy environment in and around the regulated rivers? That is the overarching focus of many of the presentations, and several HydroCen researchers contributed to the programme:
Effects of planned hydropower dams and barriers on river connectivity in the Balkan region, Mauro Carolli, SINTEF
Methods, indicators and solutions for sustainable hydropower, Atle Harby, SINTEF
Long-term changes in riverscapes, Knut Alfredsen, NTNU
Physical Environmental Impacts on a hydropower reservoir under different operational modes, Ana Adeva Bustos, SINTEF
CoolHydro, Lennart Schönfelder, SINTEF
CIEA Hydro Roadmap for best solutions for hydropower and fish, Ana Adeva Bustos, SINTEF
Using turbulent eddies to guide fish, Ana T. Silva, NINA
A critical review of best practice mitigation, Jo Halvard Halleraker, NTNU
Many of HydroCen's collaborators also presented interesting topics:
Environmentally Sustainable Hydropower in the United States, v/Dr. Brenda Pracheil Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)
Balancing increased capacity v/Marie Egerrup, HydroTasmania
Mitigation measures revisited – environmental effects, costs and endurance, Ulrich Pulg, NORCE
New method for passing substrate over weirs, Tom Jacobsen, SediCon
U.S. Department of Energy's Hydropower Program Overview, Dana N. McCoskey, Water Power Technologies Office U.S. Department of Energy
The presentations are divided into playlists for DAY 1, DAY 2, and DAY 3.
